We stay in the same hotel, we meet new people and network, and we provide a safe space to finally see those shows you’ve been dying to see but don’t have someone to go with. See, that person was me. Before 2021, I didn’t know anyone as passionate about theater as me. My husband is willing to “suffer” through a touring show with me every now and then but it’s realllllly not his jam.
I live more than 800 miles from NY, so grabbing a single lottery ticket or rushing isn’t an option.
Then in 2021, The Music Man with Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster opened. I said “the hell with it, I just HAVE TO SEE THIS SUPER DUO” and impulsively bought a ticket. Flew out first thing on a Wednesday, saw the matinee, flew home that night. Loooong day but so worth it.
LIGHT BULB MOMENT.
Now I’m a “geographically stranded super fan” who’s figured out how to keep from missing most of the shows I felt were important.
I do that through solo trips to New York, tacking on little side trips to my “day job” travel. Interestingly, many people around me think or even tell me I’m nuts. “Aren’t you worried something will happen to you?” “Don’t you get lonely?” Nope and nope. But I totally understand how people could think that. And maybe you think that, too?
That’s where I can help you. You don’t HAVE to go it alone! Here’s why…
A few months after The Music Man trip, I also discovered my sister, whom I wasn’t very close with at the time, was interested in shows and we took our first trip together. That was the start of us growing closer and ultimately launching our business, “Girlfriends’ Getaways.”
